Extractions

You’re in good hands at Calgary Dental House

At Calgary Dental House, our goal is to help you maintain your healthy, beautiful smile for a lifetime. With that said, there may be some circumstances that require the removal of a tooth. Dr. Crawford and Dr. Reddy use 3D technology to ensure that your extraction is precise and smooth. A tooth extraction is the type of procedure that could make patients feel anxious; however, we want to assure you that your comfort is our top priority. Dental anaesthetics help us to keep your procedure comfortable, and we offer the option of nitrous oxide for patients who need a bit of extra help feeling relaxed during treatment.

Wisdom teeth extractions

Called “third molars” because they’re the third set of molars to arrive, wisdom teeth typically come in around the ages of 18 to 25. They’re positioned far back in your mouth behind your second molars, which can make them difficult to brush and floss properly.

Some wisdom teeth don’t come in straight, which can cause other teeth to shift or become crowded. There are some wisdom teeth that never erupt or arrive properly at all, which means they remain impacted below your gum line, increasing your risk of infection.

Do I need an extraction?

If you’re faced with any of these scenarios, our doctors will recommend that you have your wisdom teeth extracted. This is a very common procedure, and our 3D cone beam technology provides a digital image that helps us plan a very accurate surgery that is more predictable for our patients.

Dental infections & injuries

If root canal therapy can’t preserve a tooth that has become decayed, infected, or injured, Dr. Crawford and Dr. Reddy will recommend an extraction. An infected tooth can cause bigger problems if it’s left untreated because the infection can travel to other critical areas of your body, so it’s important to have it treated.

The loss of your tooth presents new challenges such as being able to talk, smile, and properly chew your food. It also impacts your oral health–without a tooth root for support, your bone will begin to deteriorate. Additionally, without a replacement tooth, your remaining teeth will shift, so it’s a good idea to think about replacing your missing tooth as soon as you can.

Tooth replacement options

We can discuss different replacement options, such as dental implants, with the capability to restore both beauty and function to your smile. Dr. Crawford can determine if implants will suit your needs and perform the entire procedure from start to finish here at Calgary Dental House, should you decide to move forward.
