When should my child first see the dentist?
At Calgary Dental House, Dr. Crawford and Dr. Reddy love to see children! We recommend that your little one has their first appointment around the age of one-year-old. This may seem early, and their first visits will mainly consist of a ride in the "big chair," and counting teeth. However, it gives us the opportunity to meet your child, monitor their oral health, and help them easily acclimate to the dental office.
As they get older and more teeth arrive, we will incorporate cleanings into their routine dental checkups. We will only do this if they feel comfortable, as our goal is always to provide the best experience possible, which sets them up for success in their future dental visits.
Down the road, we may also recommend additional services for your child such as fluoride treatments and dental sealants. Fluoride can be incorporated into their cleanings and helps to strengthen and protect their developing teeth. Dental sealants protect their teeth from the acids and bacteria that cause tooth decay with protective barriers placed over the surfaces of their back teeth.
